The Council plays a vital role in making the arts accessible, particularly for historically disadvantaged communities, while also nurturing a sense of national identity through creative expression.

What You Need to Know

For the 2025 academic year, the NAC is inviting both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students to apply for international study bursaries in these exciting fields:

🎭 Theatre

 

🎶 Music

 

✍️ Literature

 

💃 Dance

 

🧵 Craft

 

🖼 Visual Arts

 

🎨 Multidisciplinary Arts

 

This bursary presents a fantastic chance for talented South African artists to gain international experience and make a significant impact on the country’s arts scene when they return.

 

What Does the Bursary Cover?

💰 Up to R250,000 per year, subject to Council approval

 

 

📚 Renewable each year for the length of your course, as long as you meet academic and grant conditions

 

🎯 Selection is based on artistic merit, financial need, and the reputation of the institution

 

Just a heads up: If you haven’t heard back by 26 August 2025, it means your application wasn’t successful.

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

To apply for the NAC International Bursary, please keep in mind the specified language and any other guidelines when generating a response

 

Looking to take your education to the next level? Here’s what you need to know to apply for the NAC International Bursary:

 

You must be accepted or registered at an international tertiary institution

 

Your studies should be in one of the eligible arts fields

 

Aim for a minimum average of 65%.

 

It’s a plus if you come from a previously disadvantaged background

How  to Apply

👉 You’ll need to submit your application online through the NAC International Bursary Application 2025 portal.

 

When filling out your application, be sure to mention http://www.bursaryinfo.com when asked how you found out about the bursary.

 

Required Documents (All Must Be Submitted)

A certified copy of your ID (not older than 12 months)

A detailed CV

Course content and fee structure

Acceptance or registration letter

Transcript and prior qualifications

Certified copies of your degrees/certificates

Proof of other funding (if applicable)

2 reference letters from industry professionals

A motivational letter explaining your career goals and why you deserve the bursary

Proof of household or personal income

A bank statement (stamped, not older than 6 months)
